Time is in fact the killer concept to this life. There’s never enough, we are always running out.
This is a classic supply and demand problem, only thing is you can’t buy more time in your life.
Sure, you can sell your time, or buy somebody else’s time. Nobody gets to go to the universe and ask for more time or even a small loan of time.
The she / he who controls everything is a weird concept. The old standard, Father Time makes you think about some old guy with an hour glass who controls time, line-ups, people waiting in traffic or just for their toast to pop-up, this old guy controls everything, including all airline schedules?
No way. If only things could be so simple?
It all probably started with someone noticing the day and night dilemma of trying to stay alive to survive in the cave man and woman days.
The dark and the light. Good times, Bad times. (Before Led Zeppelin)
In ye old days, they say you survived the night so you could run for your life in the day time. If you didn’t happen to be dinner that day, you hoped to catch and eat some other small or large beast to eat for your dinner.
Then, in the jungle everybody was running, otherwise you got served up as the meal special on that day!
Not sure things got much better with the Sun Dial, not so good on cloudy or rainy days. The hour glass was ok, but required constant resetting.
The measure of time is mainly moot and a bit of a ‘mugs game’ due to us never really knowing when the start of time (big bang) or the end of time will occur. This vague understanding of when we decided to start measuring time is problematic and so we decided to start over in this time-measure thing.
Seems at some point in this time-based grand experiment of life and living together, we got religious and God sent us his Son for us to misunderstand.
So once the priests and politicians of those days had messed up and sentenced another innocent guy (Jesus) to death, we years later marked the date.
BC, Before Christ – how far back does time go, we don’t know.
AD, After the Death of Christ – how far forward will time go, we don’t know.
This really makes the murky question about how much time we all have just about as clear as mud! It would be fair to say, at this time, we aren’t very good at pinpointing real or unreal events that happened roughly two thousand years ago.
So let’s just assume this time thing was another attempt at getting organized. Dark / Light, AM / PM and (God’s Bible or Man’s?) with BC and AD.
Ok, so this was all kinda of ok? Then it seems like time was standing still for many years, decades and centuries of horrific times of war and conflict.
Then it was time for a change.
The time industry and the industrial use of time started to quickly improve the quality of life and change the times.
Time appreciation was an important advancement for us to understand and economize to industry. Time manager started to run the clock and learn how much time was required to build parts, make machines and bring in the crops. This revolutionized how the business of agriculture and science worked.
Time appreciation created value in time. Now time was money and should not be spent foolishly. It was not to be wasted and should be invested wisely.
Some will say, “make every moment matter, count the seconds, and the minutes will count themselves.” Look at Usain Bolt, what makes him the fastest man alive is a matter of 1/10 of a second. Time is like a quicksilver. When Roger Bannister broke the four minute mile ‘One Mile’ at the Empire Stadium in Vancouver, Canada on Aug. 7, 1954 no one thought it could be done.

Once Bannister passed the time barrier, others quickly followed and we continue to get faster times!
And now talking about faster times, we are moving into the future of time with the Internet of Things (IoT). The return of the watch from Pebble, Apple and many others will have us all beeping and ringing with time alarms and other time notifications telling us time is up, it’s time to go and other untimely interruptions to whatever we had happened to be doing before the time was up and it was time for whatever is next?
Internet of Things will connect to everything. The phone will be your Remote Control for Life!
We all know time is important; to live in the past is not good. Trying to live too far into the future doesn’t leave much time to make living better today.
Ever since we created clocks and watches, our time pieces have controlled us just as much as we have wrestled and struggled to be the master of time.
As usual, some of the best advice we get comes from our birth mom(s) and dad(s), as well as grandparents, the most experienced family time travelers.
Here’s what my Mom told me one day.
“The past is history, the future is a mystery, every day is a gift, that’s why it’s called the present!”
I LOVE that, it really sums up the whole time opportunity dilemma into a nice pithy little ditty to put in your ‘watch pocket’ to carry with you in life.
Use this gift of the present today and work with it everyday. It is a good practice to make a habit for the time of your life!
Take this day first, then try another day tomorrow, one on one (you and your best day -> today) is the way to build a great life, day by day.
So be happy today and share your magic powers with those who you can care for today!
